Cupcakes on Broadway

This week Devin's brother came to visit NYC and stayed with us for a few days. Thanks to him, we have developed two new and awesome habits that will lead to our eventual financial ruin and death by obesity. I am talking about: Broadway musicals and Crumbs cupcakes.

We headed down to Times Square to catch my and Devin's first "official" musical ($30 student rush tickets, and we ended up sitting in seats that were worth $137 each), and on the way we stopped at Crumbs and got a taste pack of their best sellers, made up of twelve 2.25 inch cupcakes. We divided each in half, so we could all sample as many as possible. AMAZING. Milk is definitely required.

Prepare for information overload! From top left: Grasshopper (chocolate cake with fudge in the middle, mint cream cheese frosting, mini chocolate chips), Cookie Dough (vanilla cake with fudge in the middle, cream cheese frosting with chunks of cookie dough, mini chocolate chip cookie on top), Cookies and Cream (chocolate cake with Oreo frosting and an Oreo on top), Blackout (chocolate cake with fudge in the middle, topped with chocolate cream cheese frosting, chocolate drizzle, and chocolate crumbs), Raspberry Swirl (vanilla cake with raspberry preserves in the middle and vanilla frosting and raspberry preserves on top), Vanilla Sprinkle (vanilla cake with vanilla frosting and sprinkles), Vanilla and Chocolate Sprinkle (vanilla cake with chocolate frosting and sprinkles), Coconut (vanilla cake and frosting topped with shredded coconut), Candy (vanilla cake with a butter cream filling and frosting, topped with mini M&Ms), Squiggle (chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream in the middle, topped with chocolate ganache), Red Velvet (red velvet cake topped with cream cheese frosting, red velvet crumbs, and sprinkles), and finally, Devil's Food (chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream filling, topped with vanilla frosting, mini chocolate chips, and chocolate crumbs).

The Grasshopper, Raspberry Swirl, and Candy were my favorite. Devin dug the Cookie Dough among others, and Derrick is a disciple of Red Velvet.

Then! Totally jazzed on a sugar overload, we saw Anything Goes at the Stephen Sodheim Theatre. It was really fun, and this is coming from a gal who isn't entirely sold on the concept of musicals. It was witty, clever, and the high budget allotted to casting, set design, costumes (and every other aspect) definitely showed. Now we want to see The Book of Mormon even more, plus a few others.

Thanks for the new addictions!
